2. First use

A video tutorial will be sent before reception to help you lock and unlock your Slades.

2.1 How do I unlock my pair?

The following steps should be done with your feet in the shoes.

1. Place your roller skates perpendicular to the floor (shoe toe pointing downward) and insert the unlocking key into the hole at the back of the chassis.

2. Push down vertically on the unlocking key with the palm of your hand.

3. Push the rolling base down while your foot is sliding to the floor.

4. Remove the unlocking key.

2.2 How do I lock my pair?

The following steps must be done standing up with your feet in the shoes, rolling bases in front of you. Use a pole, railing or wall for support.

1. With the tip of your standing foot, block the rear wheel of your rolling base. Place the tip of your other foot at the end of the rolling part, where the front hook is, in order to insert it into its compartment.

2. Put your body weight on your toes / apply pressure on the toes and push the shoe back as far as possible to lock the hook.

3. Once the hook is well locked, lower your heel on the chassis. Press on your heel until you hear a"clic". The system is securely locked.

4. With your locked skates shoe, block the rear wheel of the second rolling base and repeat steps 1 to 4.

5. To ensure that the pair is perfectly locked, put your weight on the heel by making movements from left to right.

3.1 How do I safely use my pair?

This product is suitable for skaters of all levels. For beginners, it is recommended to take a few classes to learn the basic skating techniques (braking, skating, falling safely, and turning etc…).

The use of the product is not recommended for people with disorders that affect mobility, or reflexes. Wear protective gear (helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards...).

Upon reception and before every use you have to check that:

-  The trucks are well tightened (14 mm socket wrench)
- The wheels are well tightened (13 mm socket wrench)
- The toe stops are well tightened (22 mm wrench)
- The trucks' pivot nut are well tightened (13 mm wrench)

- Steep inclines (harder to brake and control your speed)

- Wet and slippery surfaces where the grip between your wheels and the ground could be compromised. These surfaces also affect your braking and water is bad for your bearings.

- Skating near roads and cars, choose lanes dedicated to pedestrians.

Be aware of your surroundings. Watch out for pedestrians when skating and always be prepared to come to a sudden stop. Hard or poorly controlled braking can cause damage situations not covered by the warranty.

Be familiar with local laws wherever you roll. Flaneurz (Slades parent company) cannot be held responsible for legal issues related to the practice of roller skating.

Flaneurz is not responsible for accidents and can under no circumstances be held liable for any damages related to/or arising from the use of this product.

4. Maintenance

4.1 How do I maintain my shoe?

Make sure that nothing alters the contact between the outsole and the rolling base for optimal lock (including gravel stuck in the sole or in the compartments, chewing gum, bits of tar). If necessary, use the unlocking key to scrape away dirt and/or use a damp cloth to clean the sole.

Maintaining cleanliness: use a damp cloth to clean the part made of cotton and gently clean the part made of suede with suitable products. Do not put the shoes in the washing machine and/or the dryer. Let dry your shoes in the open air as often as possible.

Also, do not leave the product near heat sources (heaters or fireplaces) that could damage or distort the shoe.

4.2 How do I maintain my toe stops, wheels and bearings?

To improve your toe stop duration, turn them regularly to wear it out uniformly.

Rotate your wheels regularly for them to last longer. Make sure that there are no chips or flat spots on the wheels.

Bearings need regular cleaning, and need to be changed if you skate very often. Skating in the rain or on wet surfaces damages the bearings; that is why it is not recommended.

4.3 How do I maintain the system and chassis?

The mechanical system (back hooks) must not be oiled or greased (for example WD40). These greasy products will agglomerate the dirt, which will tarnish the system and cause it to jam. It can be cleaned with a soft cloth to remove dust, or with a dust spray.

You can clean the chassis with a soft damp cloth.
